Just adding some insights to this - there are times where our team uses the @mentions, but does not need to update the status (which triggers a notification if it auto assigns, or does not need to manually re-assign - it is often just a comment that needs to be reviewed.

Currently, unless you look at the Unread Activity, you dont know that @mentions have been made, and they can be missed, particularly when you have various types of other notifications triggering for action

Would be awesome to get an email notification for the @mentions, not just the reassign to a team member.
